Toy Story Case Study

I. Introduction
A. Thesis: The influence of Toy Story to computer animation.

B. Toy Story was the first feature length 3D animation

  • It has become an icon of 3D animation, and made significant        contribution in technology as well as storytelling.

II. Body

A. Techniques used in Toy Story.

  • Being produced in a fairly new media in 1995, Toy Story was able to create a hyper reality animation.
  • Renderman software used in the movie created realism effects in the shaders and produced life like looks on the movie.

B. Storytelling

  • Despite of the technical challenges of Toy Story, the director and story artists were able to produce a story that were appealing to children and adults.
  • Through the power of the story, Toy Story has broken the boundary of animation that had always been for children audiences.

C. Toy Story in the society.

Cultural influence

  • Animation is no longer directed to children only, but it has started to attract  adults as well.

Financial success

  • The first movie led Pixar to go public and earned enough money to be Disney’s partner.
  • Toy Story and Toy Story 2 broke the record of being the highest grossing animated film when they were released with Toy Story 2 doubled the number from Toy Story.
  • The success of the movie led Disney to produce merchandises and collectibles, as Pixar brand became famous.

D. The future of Toy Story and Pixar

  • Toy Story 3, the third installment of the movie is going to be released in 2010.
  • Pixar was acquired by Disney, but it works independently as an animation studio and will continue to develop advanced technology and storytelling in computer animation.
